Russia 'irresponsible' for selling arms to Syria: Israel
Israel on Sunday denounced as irresponsible the reported sale by Russia of P-800 Yakhont cruise missiles to Syria, saying it could threaten the strategic balance in the region.
News of the sale emerged on Friday when Russian Defence MinisterAnatoly Serdyukov told reporters in Washington that Moscow would fulfil a 2007 contract to supply Yakhont cruise missiles to Damascus,Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
The sale, worth at least 300 million dollars, will see Syria receiving around 72 cruise missiles, the Interfax news agency said on Sunday, citing defence industry sources.
"This decision translates into a very poor demonstration of responsibility by a country which sees itself as influential and which claims to act in favour of regional stability," a senior Israeli government official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity. (rest at link above)
Israel should sink the ship or shoot down the planes delivering these missiles. Or better yet, bomb the delivery / installation site before they are operational. With any luck Putin might be there picking up his check.
RIA on Friday quoted Serdyukov as saying the United States feared the Yakhonts could end up in the hands of "terrorists" -- an apparent reference to Hezbollah, which surprised Israel by hitting one of its warships with a cruise missile in a 2006 war.
Serdyukov called such concerns "fruitless", RIA said.
Lieberman said that Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak, who visited Moscow this month to sign a military cooperation pact, had "dealt with the (Yakhont) issue, but things didn't work out".

IDF experts who examined some of the mortar shells fired at Israeli communities on Wednesday found that the explosives used contained phosphorous. The finding shows that Hamas has gained more advanced weapons technology, they said.
Phosphorous would make any wounds resulting from a terrorist rocket attack more severe, as the substance burns on impact and can cause serious injury or death. It is forbidden for use as a weapon in civilian areas by international law.
Gaza terrorists fired one rocket and nine mortar shells at Israeli civilian communities in the western Negev on Wednesday. Senior Hamas terrorist Ahmed Jabri released a statement calling to continue the attacks “until victory.” (Rest at link above).

Sharif el-Gamal, developer of the mosque near Ground Zero, is being evicted from his office in SoHo for racking up $39,000 in back rent.
The developer of the Ground Zero mosque is being bounced from his SoHo office, the Daily News has learned.
Sharif El-Gamal, who runs the real estate firm Soho Properties and is heading the project two blocks from Ground Zero, was slapped with eviction proceedings last month after tallying up $39,000 in back rent, a Manhattan Housing Court filing shows. (rest of story at link above).
I am not a real estate maven, but it seems to me that Con Ed could use these developments as deal-breakers to not pass over their lease of the adjoining property to the developers.

The religious leader behind the proposed mosque near Ground Zero has been slapped with a lawsuit in Union City, NJ, where officials have accused him of ignoring dozens of violations at two rundown apartment buildings he owns.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's buildings, with a total of 48 apartments, have been the targets of more than 30 health and safety complaints, among them mold, uncollected garbage, bedbugs, odors, dirty hallways and a lack of heat, the lawsuit says...

The best part is at the end. At approx 1:50 there's Trump's above deadpan reply to Letterman asking (provoking) "are we really at war with Islam?" But stay with it. At 2:20 Letterman admits he hasn't read the koran so he isn't sure if it's really, you know, all "here it is, in your face, what are you going to do..."

What’s interesting about this is, is that when we were negotiating it back under President Clinton in the 1990s, the deal that was on the table was all of the Golan to go back to Syria -- the Golan Heights -- and Israel would get peace and normalization of relations in return, plus security arrangements...
The deal of territory for peace that we were negotiating was never that attractive to the Israeli public. Five prime ministers were prepared to withdraw from the Golan. They were always looking over their shoulder, whether the public was going to be behind them. And the reason the public wasn’t sure about it -- they liked the Golan Heights. They have got a nice wine and grapes and cherries and so on.
But also, it’s the high ground strategically, and they didn’t think the Syrians were going to really offer them a real peace. They would say to me, you know, the Syrians will teach us what a cold peace is like.
Now the deal is different. And that’s what is so interesting about it, because Syria is aligned with Iran. It’s the conduit for Iran’s nefarious influence in Lebanon, Gaza, through Hezbollah, Hamas. And from the Israeli point of view, if you can pull Syria out of that alliance, bring it into the peace camp through the negotiations and a peace treaty, then you’ve got a different trade. It’s territory for strategic realignment, and every expert in Israel can understand that.
